Biography

German tenor Jonas Kaufmann began his career in Saarbrücken and Stuttgart and was a member of Zurich Opera. Recent appearances include his role debut as Barnaba in La Gioconda (Opera Australia), Otelloand Calaf(Vienna State Opera), Werther (ROH), Andrea Chénier (La Scala), Tannhäuser (role debut at the Salzburg Easter Festival 2023), Siegmund (Teatro di San Carlo, Naples), Radamès (Vienna State Opera), Cavaradossi (Zurich Opera, Naples), Dick Johnson (Bavarian State Opera), Peter Grimes (Bavarian State Opera, Vienna State Opera), Lohengrin (Opera Australia) and Tristan (Bavarian State Opera). Studio recordings include Otello, Aida, Turandot, Insieme (opera debuts) with Ludovic Tézier, Das Lied von der Erde, Winterreise and ten solo recitals. Awards include ten Echo/Opus Klassik awards, several Gramophone Awards, and the Honorary Award of the Royal College of Music. He was made a Bavarian Kammersänger in 2013, an Austrian Kammersänger in 2021 and an Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2018.
